The anniversary of the scientific director of the FGBNU «NIOPP» academician Kubatiev Aslan Amirkhanovich – 80 years.

Aslan Amirkhanovich Kubatiev was born on April 6, 1941 in Baku. In 1966 he graduated from the North Ossetian State Medical Institute with a degree in medical doctor. After graduation he was assigned to the Department of Pathological Physiology of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Advanced Training of Doctors of the USSR Ministry of Health named after A. M. Aliyev, where he worked as an assistant until 1971. In the same year he moved to Moscow and worked as a junior and then as a senior researcher at the All-Russian Scientific Research Vitamin Institute of the Ministry of Medical Industry of the USSR until 1980. Since 1980 — Associate Professor of the Department of Pathophysiology of the TSOLIU of Doctors of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, from 1986 and until the present day — Head of the Department of General Pathology and Pathophysiology of the Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Postgraduate Education (RMANPO).
Academician A. A. Kubatiev is an outstanding Russian scientist in the field of molecular and cellular pathophysiology.  He made a significant contribution to the development of fundamental and applied problems of general and special pathology, experimental hematology, hemostasiology, cardiology, nanobiology, nanopathology and biomedical nanotechnologies. Special fame in our country and abroad was brought to A. A. Kubatiev by studies of the regulation of the aggregate state of blood in the vessels of the small circle of blood circulation, the search and development of new thrombolytic agents, inhibitors of platelet aggregation of natural and synthetic origin.

A.A. Kubatiev created a unique experimental model of immunogenic thrombosis of the pulmonary arteries, which completed many years of discussions among specialists about the possibility of non-embologous thrombosis in these vessels, described in detail the morphological, pathophysiological and molecular biological mechanisms of the formation of pulmonary thrombosis, participated in the development and introduction into medical practice of the first Soviet thrombolytic drug of fungal origin — Terrilitin, for which he was awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR in the field of science and technology in 1991 as part of the author’s team.

An important role belongs to Academician A. A. Kubatiev in the formation of two new scientific directions: neuron-specific reprogramming of oligodendrocytes in ischemic brain injuries (the international priority of which is confirmed by the publication in the journal «World Drug Discovery», 2013) and nanopathology, as a new biomedical science that studies the structural and functional features of the penetration and behavior of metal nanoparticles in the human and animal body.

The main principles of this direction are represent in the monograph «Biological effects of metal nanoparticles», published in 2018 jointly with E. M. Egorova and V. I. Shvets by Springer International Publishing (Switzerland).

A. Kubatiev is one of the leading scientists and organizers of medical science in Russia. Having headed the Research Institute of General Pathology and Pathophysiology at the most critical time for him (2001), A. A. Kubatiev managed not only to preserve the high scientific potential, personnel, authority and traditions of the Institute, but also to make it one of the best institutions of the RAS of the first category by 2016. Having headed the Research Institute of General Pathology and Pathophysiology at the most critical time for it (2001), A. A. Kubatiev managed not only to preserve the high scientific potential, personnel, authority and traditions of the Institute, but also to make it one of the best institutions of the RAS of the first category by 2016. During this period of time, along with the traditional areas of pathophysiology, the staff of the Institute was actively involved in the development of completely new problems of molecular and cellular pathophysiology, nanopathology, biomedical cell technologies, functional genomics, metabolomics, angioproteomics, lipidomics, transcriptomics and microfluidics. The works of A. A. Kubatiev and the laboratory of blood aggregation regulation headed by him in the field of systemic endotoxinemia and toxic-infectious shock, endoplasmic reticulum stress, hemodialysis, diabetic angiopathy have been widely recognized. Research in the field of pharmacology of the hemostasis system is successfully developing.

In recent years, much attention has been paid by Academician A. A. Kubatiev and his team to the development of new technologies for the laboratory diagnosis of hyperhomocysteinemia, as well as the mechanisms of the damaging effect of homocysteine, its fractions and metabolites in the pathogenesis of ischemic brain damage, chronic kidney disease, reproductive pathology, osteoporosis and other diseases, including the new coronavirus infection COVID-19, the clinical justification for the use of the world’s first Russian-made antihomocysteine drug Angiovit. The importance of these studies lies in the fact that with a high level of homocysteine in the blood plasma, the risk of cardiovascular diseases and, first of all, intravascular thrombosis sharply increases.

Academician A. A. Kubatiev is the founder of the school of Molecular and cellular pathophysiologists. Under his leadership 9 doctoral and 23 candidate dissertations were prepared; two of his students were elected members of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Author and co-author of 398 scientific articles (including 71 articles in highly rated foreign journals), 5 monographs, 2 textbooks, 6 scientific and methodological manuals and more than 17 patents for inventions.

Head editor of the journal «Pathogenesis», member of the Editorial Board of the journals «Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences», «Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine», «Pathological Physiology and Experimental Therapy», etc.

From 2011 to 2013 he was a member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Currently he is a member of the Bureau of the Department of Medical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Bureau of the Section of Biomedical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

President of the Russian Scientific Society of Pathophysiologists (2014-present). Chairman of the Scientific Council on General Pathology and Pathophysiology (2001-present).

Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation.

Laureate of the State Prize of the RSFSR in the field of science and technology.

A veteran of labor.
